History

Intercultural Montessori’s history can be traced back to 1985, where the development of our unique dual-language/Montessori blend was first pioneered at our Oak Park campus. In our 30 year history, we have become a model for similar programs around the world.

After 20 ground-breaking years, Intercultural was restructured under a Board of Directors in 2005 and became a non-profit organization. A strategic plan was created, and the board and Executive Director began the steps to expand in order to meet the growing demand for Intercultural’s unique programs.

In 2009 Intercultural reached a landmark goal with the opening of our Chicago campus. Today Intercultural continues to enjoy annual increases in enrollment, and has doubled in size many times over since its creation. We currently have over 300 students ranging from ages 3 -12.

The future promises to hold more expansion for Intercultural. The Board of Directors recently announced plans to open a middle school no later than the 2018-2019 academic year, which would serve students through age 14.
