The Preschool Program is comprised of children aged 3-6 years which includes the kindergarten year. Language Immersion in the target languages takes place during the first part of the day. The Preschool Program devotes a greater percentage of the school day to language immersion. The English speaking program is conducted during the second part of the school day. Our aim is to prepare children for their future education in both languages. When the children enter our elementary program, they are fully capable of handling the full Montessori curriculum in two languages.
Half-Day Program 8:30 - 12:30 p.m.
Full-Day Program 8:30 – 3:00 p.m.
Extended-Day Program 8:30 – 6:00 p.m.
• Preschool Half-Day Program is designed for all children who are ready for a larger community. The younger children will develop social and target language skills, motor coordination, perceptual skills, and pre-reading and pre-math concepts. The major areas for choice of work are practical life, sensorial, math, language, geography, science, cultural areas, and creative arts. During this part of the day, the children will work within an environment that uses the target language.
• Preschool Full-Day Program is designed for children who are ready to extend their morning work time. Along with developing academic skills, children are forming cooperative peer relationships and an interest in group projects. These children continue their day until 3:00 pm within an English speaking Montessori classroom environment. During the afternoon session, children will continue to work within the same curriculum areas, but now the focus is on acquiring their reading and writing skills in English. The youngest children in the 3-6 year age group are typically in the nap room until they are able to participate in the full-day classroom program.
• Preschool Extended Day takes place during the late afternoon from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, the full range mixed age group comes together for expanded academic activities, social games, or projects in a relaxed English-speaking environment.
One Montessori certified teacher and a trained assistant, (both native speakers of the target language), work as a team in a setting with a mixed age group in the morning work period (8:30 – 12:30 pm) which will include lunch/recess.
The afternoon period (12:30 – 3:00 pm) includes a work cycle in English which is taught by certified Montessori teachers.
