Intercultural Student Receives the
Illinois Association of Teachers of Japanese Award
at the 25th Annual Japanese Language Speech Contest
This Saturday March 26, 2011, Intercultural Montessori Language School 5th Grader Rebecca Iseli competed in the 25th Annual Japanese Language Speech Contest, held at the Japan Information Center. For her outstanding speech entitled, “My First Paper-Making Experience”, Rebecca received an Illinois Association of Teachers of Japanese Award (IATJ). Rebecca talked about her own actual experience of making paper, including the importance of saving paper and the impact of paper-making on the environment. Of Rebecca’s outstanding performance, Intercultural Japanese teacher Akiko Fujii states “it is an honorable result for her and our school.”
The Japanese Language Speech Contest is sponsored by The Consulate General of Japan at Chicago, The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Chicago, The Japan America Society of Chicago, The City of Osaka Chicago Office, and The Chicago Sister Cities International Program Osaka Committee.
