School Message from Edina McGivern
March 6, 2014

It looks as if old man winter is not going to let go of his grip even though we are welcoming in the spring in a matter of weeks.  I can, however, wish everyone a very authentic and happy St Patrick’s Day!

Some important information for the month of March includes:

GALA AUCTION ITEMS REQUESTED

As you know, Intercultural’s Annual Gala and Auction will be taking place at the Crowne Plaza on Saturday, May 3rd. I would like to thank all those who have submitted Gala Auction items. We still need many wonderful auction donations to augment our fundraising efforts. Please consider asking your employers, neighbors, friends, and local businesses to donate something for the auction. They will be gratefully acknowledged in the Gala program. Please click the link to the donation form and print copies to give to your potential donors:

SPECIAL ELEMENTARY OPEN HOUSE: MARCH 13TH

Intercultural is holding a special evening open house on Thursday, March 13th at 6:00 PM. This event is geared toward prospective parents with elementary-age children who would like to learn more about Intercultural’s elementary program. As I’m sure you know, parent referrals are a primary source of new families coming to Intercultural, so we would greatly appreciate it if you would spread the word about this special evening to any interested friends. We will be sending home some flyers with your children for you to pass along if you so desire.

ELEMENTARY FIELD TRIP TO BROOKFIELD ZOO

Intercultural’s elementary students will be taking their next field trip to Brookfield Zoo on Wednesday, March 12th.  The theme for this visit is “Animal Training and Enrichment.” The students will take classes in the Discovery Center Founders’ Room, and then see an exciting dolphin show at the Seven Seas.

SUMMER PROGRAMS

The summer is not as far away as we may think! Intercultural’s summer program commences on Monday, June 9th and ends on Friday, August 15th and consists of 5 two-week sessions. Each summer session is theme-based and includes language immersion.

This year it will include the following themes:

  • Session 1- The World of Music
  • Session 2- Animal Planet
  • Session 3- Countries around the World
  • Session 4- Space and the Environment
  • Session 5- Circus Adventure

The school would greatly appreciate it if you can let us know your plans for summer as soon as possible to assist our staffing and teacher vacation scheduling.  We request that you submit your summer registration forms no later than May 1st.

INTERCULTURAL STAFF UPDATES

I would like to welcome Ms. Monica Rodriguez to the Chicago Campus Afterschool program. Ms. Monica is originally from Mexico and she comes to us with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Prior to relocating to the Unites States she worked as an elementary teacher. Ms. Monica has now assumed the position vacated by Ms. Rosie Rosado, who has moved to the Oak Park Campus.

Ms. Rosie Rosado has left the Chicago After Care team in order to assist Ms. Brenda in Oak Park’s Sor Juana community. Ms. Rosie brings her three years of Intercultural experience and her warm, nurturing presence to her new role. I am sure she and Ms. Brenda will make a great team.

I am thankful to Ms. Fang Wang, who has moved from Chicago’s Jade community to join Ms. Karen on the Oak Park Campus After Care team. Ms. Fang will also continue to substitute at both campuses as needed.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES FOR 2014

We are pleased to announce the addition of The Martial Arts University on Thursday afternoons at the Chicago campus this spring.  Co-owners Mr. Reginal Venson and Mr. John Venson, both certified through The International Shuri Ryu Association and the Professional Karate Commission, will be offering primary martial arts (3-6) and elementary martial arts (6-12) to the Chicago students.

Please sign up for all your spring extracurricular activities no later than Thursday, March 13th. Click on the links below to see the options on our website:
