The 11th annual New Year’s Shinnenakai Culture Festival will take place onSaturday, January 18th. This event is co-hosted by the JET Alumni Association of Chicago and the Consulate General of Japan at Chicago. We would like to invite you and your students to join us as we celebrate the Year of the Horse. The Shinnenkai is a celebration of Japanese culture and promises to be a great opportunity to learn about and experience different customs and games.
Japanese food and drink will be provided and many traditional arts and crafts will be featured, including: calligraphy, origami, ema plaques and many more. You and your students will have the opportunity to experience mochi tsuki (mochi making), wear kimono, and play New Year’s games like fukuwarai. There will also be a janken (rock, paper, scissors) tournament, a trivia contest, and raffle prizes.
This is an event for all ages.
