Oak Park Arrival and DismissalJune 11, 2014
Recently, we have been noticing right in front of our school that cars are going above the speed limit for a school zone area, in particular on Randolph Avenue. I have requested a meeting with the Village of Oak Park to evaluate short term and long term options in order to improve the safety of our students and staff.
In the meantime, I feel it is necessary to share an email that highlights safety procedures that parents should be aware during arrival and dismissal process for your children.
Students who are driven to or from school are required to enter and exit their parent’s vehicle on the same side of the street as the school. This eliminates the need to cross the street.
Students must enter and exit the vehicles from the sidewalk, not on the street. Exiting a car into moving traffic creates a dangerous situation for children and staff.
Please activate the car’s hazard warning lights when parking during drop off or pick up. This will alert other motorists given the opportunity to slow down.
It is important to share this e-mail with family members or care givers who will be dropping off or picking up your child.
Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.
